I was having a shitty, frustrating day at work, and feeling bogged down with rent vs paycheck worries, and then as I was riding my bike home, one of the spokes snapped. This happens to me a lot, because my bike is a little bit old now and I use it to commute, but it was NOT what I needed today. So I turned around, rode back uphill to the bike shop, and got there just 45 minutes before closing.
The guys there know me, since my spokes break a lot, so it’s not awful to go in or anything, but I just wanted to get home to my dinner and not have to spend $20 on a repair on this particular bad day. My usual guy fixed the spoke in less than fifteen minutes, brought it around the counter to me and said “This one’s on me.”
That gesture of kindness (and good customer service) is just what I needed to turn my day around. Sometimes the world is an okay place.
if you dont have me on facebook you are probably not missing out on any posts but the comment section is important too lmao
I went to the Renaissance faire dressed as a warrior. I had a real sword with me, too. I was standing (in character) next to a sword-fighting ring, where kids of all ages got the chance to pick up a sword and challenge the champion. Some woman walks by, with her little girl. The girl starts walking towards the ring, saying she wants to fight. But the mom pulled her away hella sharply, and was like, “That’s for boys.” You don’t want to be a BOY, do you?” And the girl looked around and saw me. I think she thought I was a boy; I had my hair in a ponytail, and was wearing a hood. So she comes up to me and asks me, “Do you think girls can be fighters, too?” And her mom looks like she’s silently gloating. Like she thinks I’m going to say no. So I take off my hood, untie my hair so that it flows freely, and kneel before her. And I’m like, “Milady, anyone can be a fighter.” I swear, the look on that mother’s face made my day.
This post was good but then it got better
Last Night in Ferguson (9.28-9.29): Last night’s protest was one of the in Ferguson this month, proving once again that the residents of Ferguson/STL County are some of the most resilient and inspiring in all the land. The police were literally holding peaceful protesters hostage late into the night (folks who were complying with all police requests) so they could negotiate with the remaining folks to leave, but the protesters didn’t back down. Eventually all arrestees were released, and many plan to be back out there tonight.
Injustice in Ferguson continues, but despite it, community now thrives too. This is still happening. Are you still paying attention? #staywoke #farfromover
